A walk through contemporary architecture in Genoa: sports centre by Franco Albini

The video "The link is green" was conceived and filmed by students of the "Architectural Design" course held by Valter Scelsi at Genoa University. The aim was to focus attention on contemporary architecture and its maintenance: when architectural value is overlooked, even valuable buildings are affected by deterioration.

The video introduces the Valletta Cambiaso sports centre, designed by Franco Albini and Franca Helg and located in Albaro, one of the richest neighbourhoods in Genoa. The structure was built in 1955 and includes sports fields and a public. It incorporates sinuous forms and a series of paths. The buildings forming part of the sports centre have hexagonal windows which the architect designed as a distinct feature for the complex. Unfortunately, the building is damaged and in a state of degradation; the municipality of Genoa seems uninterested in renewing the area and its architecture.
