Co-habitation and trans-habitation: how to inhabit the home of one's enemy?

This 3d documentary by Armin Linke and Francesco Mattuzzi is a sort of magic box through which the audience can envision the imagined scenario of the evacuation of the Israeli colonies and military bases in Palestine. This injured territory becomes a crucial laboratory for observing the possible effects on population of the re-appropriation of invaded spaces and of a new use for the architecture of occupation at the moment of the future liberation.

The everyday violence of the domination and of this "third-rate mimesis of American suburbia" - generally accepted as some sort of surreal normality even by the people who are subjected to it - is explored from a new, closer and subverted perspective. The stereoscopic live-footages of real Palestinian places - a technology originally used for archaeological and military purposes - are accompanied by the visual effects of Francesco Siddi, by the soundscape made by Renato Rinaldi and by three stories of Palestinian people - narrated in voice-over -, that make more readable and understandable the landscape and the scenario of this invented radical transformation.

The video is part of the project of "Decolonizing Architecture" - by Sandi Hilal, Alessandro Petti and Eyal Weizman - , an architectural studio and art residency program based in Beit Sahour (Palestine) that explores possibilities for the reuse and subversion of actual structure of domination, including the transformation of evacuated military bases and refugee camps into residential developments.
