Paper movie

Soare & Yokina Arhitecti Asociati (SYAA)

A pop-up urban landscape emerges as a simple narrative by juxtaposing home-made models.

In "Paper movie", Syaa studio explores the process of the architectural creation and narrates the urban space from the architects' perspective. The Romanian designers created a short stop-motion movie by putting together some paper models that represent their overall design production.

The home-made and low budget video narrates, in black and white, an imaginary small town made out of the single projects of the firm. An intentionally simple landscape pops up from a pure white sheet and carries the audience into the imagery of Sayaa's activity planning, allowing an emotional perspective from the inside of the architects' everyday work and inner motivations.

The presence of living beings is only sketched by a few paper figurines that move between the scaled-down representations of the buildings in a rarefied, dreamy atmosphere.
