Imagen Subliminal

A tour into the Spanish pavilion at the 16th Venice Biennale.

"Unfinished" is the theme selected by the two curators Iñaqui Carnicero and Carlos Quintáns for the Spanish Pavilion at the 16th Biennale, awarded with the Golden Lion.

The economical crisis, in Spain, revealed the lack of reflection on whether many project were necessary or valid, and as a consequence many buildings remained unfinished or abandoned, being not even economically viable. To propose a different approach, "the exhibition - as the curators wrote - gathers examples of architecture produced during the past few years, born out of renunciation and economy of means, designed to evolve and adapt to future necessities and trusting in the beauty conferred by the passage of time".

The short film by Imagen Subliminal is a tour into the pavilion. The exhibition design was conceived in line with the overall theme of the pavilion, in fact the main element is a metal frame usually supporting partitions or utilized to finalize other building components, so it's an unfinished structure in itself. Hung or laid on the floor, it works as a support for wood-framed drawings and photos introducing the selected projects. In the central space, the metal structure can be lifted letting the space free for meetings and round table discussions.
