BIG INSIGHT: Bjarke on MECA and PUBLIC SPACE

BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group

What relation maintains the building with the public space?

This video seems to effectively shorten the distance between the audience and the project, that is explained in a clear, extemporary way by Bjarke Ingels himself while in his studio, like in a short break from his design activities.

Approaching directly the viewers, the Danish architect talks about the general idea of his winning proposal in the competition to design the MECA, "Maison de l'Economie Créative et de la Culture en Aquitaine" (Bordeaux, France), in relation with the existing public space.

Using a scale model of the project, Bjarke Ingels shows how the overall building is conceived as an integrated path, three new cultural institutions (a media library, a performance space and an art gallery on the inclined roof) that together frame a single loop on the historical waterfront of Bordeaux on the Garonne River.
