About

Alessandro Scandurra is an Italian architect. He gained international experience in various design fields and started his career by conceiving important theater settings (such as the scenography for the grand opera "Fidelio" for the open air Berlin National Opera production). In 2001 he founded Scandurra Studio, one of Italy’s foremost architectural firms, focused on a wide and multi-scaled variety of projects, from territorial and urban planning to architectural, interior and exhibit design. Some of the well renowned projects designed by Scandurra Studio include Peck gourmet deli store in Seoul (built in 2014), Zurich Insurance Company Italian Headquarters in Milan (nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2011 and finalist for the Gold medal for Italian architecture 2012), the new Palladio Museum in Vicenza (completed in October 2012). In addition to his professional career, Alessandro Scandurra is engaged in several research, publishing and teaching activities. Visiting professor at SUPSI Lugano-based Swiss University since 2005, he has been teaching at the Politecnico di Milano from 2004 to 2007. In 2011 he published the book "Carlo Scarpa e l’origine delle cose" (Marsilio publisher) and in 2012 he was nominated Head of the Advisory Board at the Portaluppi Foundation.

In 2013 Scandurra Studio won the Milan Expo 2015 Info Point design competition, then building the "Expo Gate". The project is introduced in two videos. The short animation "Expo Gate" presents the pavilion, its genesis, inspirations and its future uses. In the short film "The Gate", photographer and video maker Filippo Romano documents the different atmospheres, urban stories and viewpoints that meet and intertwine around the temporary building. Completed in 2014, the pavilion was shortlisted for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2015.
